“OCEANUS (Ocyanas) ”The sporty line "CACHALOT (Cacharo)" will release the OCW-P3000 『Intuitive Time Reading for Major Cities Around the World』 on October 16th. Combining a rotating bezel with city codes around the outer periphery of the letterboard, it features a unique "time zone navigator" that allows you to see the time in each city around the world, enhancing the convenience of globally active business people.

We asked product planners Totsuka and Kuroba about the development background and their particular interests.

For business people traveling the world

―What is the OCW-P3000's place in the CACHALOT series?

Totsuka: Since its launch in 2008, CACHALOT has developed models equipped with features such as heading measurement and waterproofing for ISO-standard 200m diving, with marine activities such as yachting, windsurfing and diving in mind. This OCW-P3000 maintains that “active use” spirit while expanding its target audience to include business people traveling the world. We aimed to create a new CACHALOT that can be relied upon in a variety of situations, from the sea to the air and even at a desk while traveling.

―Please tell us about the biggest feature of this event: the "Time Zone Navigator."

Kurobane: Place the city codes of major cities around the world on the outer perimeter of the letterboard, and when you press the button at 10 o'clock, the second hand will point to the city that is currently at midnight. Simply align the ▽ mark on the rotating bezel with the city pointed to by the second hand, and the bezel's 24-hour display and city code will give you a quick look at the current time in each city around the world. The bezel is color-coded to two tones during the day (6am 〜 6pm) and at night (18am 〜 6am), making it easier to distinguish between day and night.

―How did you think it differentiated from existing GMT features?

Totsuka: The GMT function used in other companies' watches incorporates an additional fourth hand (GMT hand) into the hour and minute hand, displaying the second time period as a 24-hour display. When traveling to business or frequently interacting with multiple locations, there is also a need to know the time in multiple cities at once. Therefore, the OCW-P3000 employs a time zone navigator that combines a rotating bezel and city codes. Simply check the bezel's 24-hour scale against the city code to see the time around the world at a glance.

―Tell us about your evolution in terms of movement.

Kuroba: This machine has been upgraded for the first time in 18 years. It is equipped with 2 (Tough Movement 2). In addition to the automatic time correction function, automatic needle position correction function, and Tough Solar, we have also incorporated the new "automatic needle position correction function with impact detection" and "magnetic field detection function." It instantly detects impact and automatically corrects the needle position, pauses needle movement if it detects a strong magnetic field, and automatically returns to the correct position when the magnetic field subsides. Smartphones and magnetic devices maintain accurate time even in modern environments where they are readily available.

We also aim to improve the feel of the bezel and overall visibility

―Are there any particular aspects of the design or operation that you paid particular attention to?

Totsuka: Because the time zone navigator actually uses a rotating bezel, we have been creating prototypes with the aim of creating a comfortable spinning motion that is neither too hard nor too loose. With visibility in mind, the index has enhanced its presence and features luminous paint to make it easier to read day and night. By changing the color of the tip of the second hand, which indicates midnight, the reference city is easier to recognize. The letter board also has a texture that can be enhanced by vapor deposition, and Indial uses a highly pigmented, impermeable material, making it easy to read World Time at a glance. The new H-piece metal band is made by welding and combining separate parts with a mirror finish to achieve a high-quality finish.

―Finally, please share your future prospects and messages to users.

Kuroba: The new "Tough Movement 2" is a movement that can handle various modern environmental factors such as shocks and magnetic fields, and maintain high time accuracy. I hope to be a trusted partner to everyone working on the stage around the world. We will continue to strive to create watches that support an active lifestyle.
